Forward Progress Stopped on a Wildfire South of Reno

A fire that blackened several hundred acres in Steamboat Valley south of Reno, that broke out Wednesday afternoon, was effectively stopped before 6pm. The fire caused major traffic disruptions and forced evacuations on Cheyenne Drive, Rhodes Road , and the area around the Redfield campus, and kept several south Reno neighborhoods on alert for possible evacuations. All evacuation orders have been lifted. The fire had been hit hard with water dropping helicopters. The fire caused power outages, at times affecting as many as 4,000 NV energy customers. The fire closed both Old 395 and 580 through the fire zone. Officials say the Petrilla Fire is 35 percent contained.
