Barton Memorial Hospital Evacuating Patients

The Caldor Fire has burned more than 168,000 acres. South Lake Tahoe is under an evacuation warning this morning as the Caldor Fire continues to grow. Barton Memorial Hospital is evacuating all patients. Patients will be transferred to regional partner facilities & patients’ families will be notified. The new evacuation warnings include all areas between the Alpine County line, the Nevada state line and the El Dorado County perimeter of South Lake Tahoe. People who need to evacuate need to use U.S. 50 or California 89. U.S. 50 remains closed from Pollock Pines to the Meyers area. A Red Cross Shelter is open at the Douglas County Community Center, on Waterloo Lane in Gardnerville. There have been three first responder injuries and two civilian injuries. More than 21,451 buildings are still threatened by the wildfire, which started August 14th east of Omo Ranch, south of the community of Grizzly Flats in El Dorado County. The fire has destroyed more than 650 buildings and damaged 39 more. Fire officials say it’s the nation’s top priority for fire resources. Containment has been downgraded to 13 percent.
