Washoe County Reports First Case of Monkey Pox

Monkeypox has arrived in Washoe County. The health district is investigating a man in his 20’s who has traveled domestically. Washoe County health officials say they have done some contact tracing and has found no other cases. The man is not hospitalized, but is isolating at home. Dr. Nancy Diao is Washoe County’s director of Public Health Preparedness–

Vaccinations so far are limited to health workers handling these cases, and anyone with known contact. Symptoms include headaches, fever and chills, muscle aches, swollen lymph nodes, and rashes that look like blisters on the face, hands, mouth and genitals. Avoiding skin to skin contact, or clothes others have won can help slow the spread.
