Governor’s School Safety Bill Passes Assembly

Gov. Joe Lombardo’s school safety bill AB330 — has passed on a 38-4 vote in the Assembly and is now headed to the Senate. The bill backs away from “restorative justice” provisions passed in 2019, and takes a tougher stand on violence and drug abuse. Students as young as 6 years old could be expelled, despite arguments from some lawmakers demanding the end of policies that create what they called, “throwaway children.” An appeals process has been added to AB330.
