Lyon County Sheriff’s Deputies may have discovered a cockfighting ring in Silver Springs. Saturday, Lyon County Animal Services received an anonymous complaint regarding suspicious activity at a home on 10th Street, just before noon. According to the caller they were hearing a large gathering of people, and lots of roosters “Crowing.” Animal Services and deputies arrived and found numerous people on scene. A deputy entered an open barn and witnessed people wagering on roosters fighting. Nearly 60 dead roosters were found on the property. Everyone inside the barn was detained, and more 50 chickens were seized. This is still an active, ongoing investigation.
