It’s an ongoing scam the Carson City Sheriff’s Office says you need to be on the lookout for. The scammer calls the victim claiming to be a family member who was in an accident. They say they’re hurt and in legal trouble. They give out a phone number for the victims to call, and once that happens, the scammer asks the victim to pay legal fees. In some cases, the victim gives out their address and someone actually comes to their homes to collect. If that happens to you and the collector shows up at your home, call 9-1-1
