Washoe County Commission Considering Cost-Cutting Measures Amid $8M Budget Deficit

(Reno, NV) — The Washoe County Commission is looking into cost-cutting measures as it faces an eight-million-dollar budget deficit. At Tuesday’s meeting, the commission discussed the budget for the upcoming fiscal year. The more than one-billion-dollar budget, proposed by county manager Eric Brown, features a hiring freeze, a vacancy review process and a reduction in commissioners’ special district funds. No layoffs or furloughs are being proposed. Some commissioners were unhappy with the budget presentation, saying not enough details were shared about the proposed cuts.
