Man Arrested in Connection With 4 Fentanyl Overdose Deaths in South Lake Tahoe

(South Lake Tahoe, CA) — A man is behind bars in connection with the fentanyl overdoses that left four people dead at a home in South Lake Tahoe. On Monday, the FBI announced the arrest of 31-year-old Timothy Pannell. The South Lake Tahoe resident was arrested on a federal complaint for the alleged distribution of fentanyl. The fentanyl overdose deaths happened in February of 2024. The FBI says Pannell claimed the drug was cocaine when he sold it to two men in a church parking lot in South Lake Tahoe. El Dorado County prosecutors convicted Pannell on a different drug charge last year, but he was released from prison early. El Dorado County District Attorney Vern Pierson believes Pannell could be looking at a new sentence of at least 20 years if convicted as charged.
