Man Gets 56 Years in Prison For Child Sex Trafficking, Drug Charges

(Reno, NV) — A man from Reno has been sentenced to 56 years in prison after being convicted of child sex trafficking and drug charges. Thirty-one-year-old Matthew Edwards was sentenced on Thursday, after pleading guilty in two cases involving child sex trafficking and selling drugs. He was first arrested in December of 2022, after starting an unsolicited conversation with an undercover police detective posing as a 15-year-old girl. Detectives were later contacted by a 22-year-old woman, who said Edwards started a sexual relationship with her when she was 15 years old. He physically beat the girl during the course of two years, and at one point, pulled a gun on her and fired a shot.
