(Sparks, NV) — Sparks residents are about to see higher Waste Management bills. But, it will mean fewer cuts to public safety. This week, in a split vote, the Sparks City Council decided to increase the city’s franchise fee by ten percent. That is expected to generate an additional three million dollars in revenue per year. The money will not stay with Waste Management but will instead be transferred directly to the city to fund public safety. It will allow the city to keep three fire department positions and two police department positions that were going to be cut. Trash hauling bills for Sparks residents will be going up by about eight dollars per quarter.
