WCSD Board of Trustees Decides on Several Budget Cuts

(Reno, NV) — Washoe County School District trustees are in agreement on several budget cuts. The cuts, approved on Tuesday, come as the district was initially facing a six-and-a-half million dollar budget deficit. They include streamlining the district’s workforce by consolidating positions and eliminating most positions that are currently vacant. Travel and training budgets for Central Office staff and utility budgets district-wide will be reduced. And, departments including finance, IT and communications will be restructured. Trustees are also calling for reallocating duties to increase efficiency without directly impacting students. The district says it is now facing a four-point-one million dollar budget shortfall after those moves. Trustees also delayed a decision about potentially eliminating four school police officer positions.
