(Carson City, NV) — The Public Utilities Commission of Nevada is considering launching an investigation into NV Energy’s billing practices. The PUCN says it recently discovered NV Energy may have been overcharging tens of thousands of customers dating back to as early as 2001. And, between April of 2017 and April of 2024, about 60-thousand customers may have been overcharged a total of more than 17-million dollars. In documents filed with the state, the PUCN blames the overcharging on “residential rate misclassifications.” Recently, NV Energy also announced it had overcharged about 20-thousand previously unidentified “multi-family accounts” by an undisclosed amount of money. The documents say NV Energy has only refunded a portion of the affected customers.
