(Truckee, CA) — Six mothers who were among those killed in an avalanche near Lake Tahoe are being identified. In all, eight people died and one person remains missing. The women who were identified by their families are: Kate Vitt, Carrie Atkin, Danielle Keatley, Kate Morse, Caroline Sekar and Liz Clabaugh. The last two were sisters. Families of the victims say eight of the guests on the trip were friends and experienced backcountry skiers. Two guides also died in the remote area north of Donner Pass. One guide and five guests survived the deadliest avalanche in California history. Hazardous weather is still preventing crews from retrieving all of the bodies.
