WHY NEVADA BANS SPORTS BETTING SITES — Nevada’s gaming Control Board has ordered sports betting sites like Fan Duel and Draft Kings to stop operating in the Silver State, until they can get a gambling license and be regulated like our sports books are. The decision was made by regulators last week, but the sites say they fall under the 2006 Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act, and that makes them exempt needing a license. Randy Kennedy with the Nugget Resort Casino sees it differently, especially in light of a worker at Draft Kings winning $350,000 on competing site Fan Duel. The sites have already changed some of their policies, including not allowing their employees to bet on other competing sites for cash, and they’ll no longer accept bets from employees who work for other sites. If the sites continue to operate without a gambling license in Nevada, they can be fined and also get 10 years prison time for operating illegally.
