The State Supreme Court says Reno’s St. Mary’s hospital must keep a young woman on life-support, until there’s a decision about the legality of the determination that she is “brain dead.” The woman’s father is fighting to keep her alive. The 20 year old has been in a coma since suffering a lack of oxygen during a surgical procedure April 1st. The decision by Justice Kristina Pickering orders a hearing to determine whether American Association of Neurology guidelines used by the hospital to declare the 20-year-old Aidan Hailu brain dead are acceptable under the “Uniform Determination of Death Act.” The state adopted that standard in the 1980’s.
