The Washoe County School District is praising the passage of the “Every Student Succeeds Act,” signed by the President this week. Under the new system, which replaces “No Child Left Behind,” states will be allowed to choose their own academic goals, both short and long term. These goals must address proficiency on tests, English language proficiency, and graduation rates, and must be part of an effort to close gaps in achievement and graduation rates. Superintendent Traci Davis says these goals have long been part of the commitment at the district, and they welcome this new system of measuring our progress.
