A Virginia City man is in jail and a Storey County Sheriff’s Deputy and another person are being treated for wounds following a shooting incident Saturday afternoon. Storey County Sheriff Gerald Antinoro says deputies were called to a report of a domestic violence incident at about 4:30 Saturday afternoon. He says as deputies arrived, a man, identified as 51-year-old Charles Stutts, reportedly opened fire with a rifle, wounding a deputy and another person. Investigators say the deputy was able to return fire and Stutts immediately surrendered. The wounded deputy and other wounded person were taken to area medical facilities with non-life-threatening injuries. Stutts was booked into the Storey County Jail on charges of attempted murder of a peace officer, attempted murder, and aggravated domestic battery. Sheriff Antinoro says this is the first time a deputy has been shot in Storey County since 1879.
