Heller Sponsors Elderly Gun Bill

Senator Dean Heller is co-sponsoring a bill he says would protect some Social Security beneficiaries from being stripped of their ability to buy a gun. In January 2013, the President issued a memorandum directing federal agencies to submit information to the National Instant Criminal Background Check System on individuals who may be “mentally deficient.” In this case someone would earn that designation if a court, board, or other lawful authority finds the person is a danger to themselves or others, or is unable to manage their own affairs. The President wants to lower the number of gun suicides among the elderly.
