A once-prominent Las Vegas doctor, who earned the nickname “Dirty Doctor Desai,” wants the state Supreme Court to overturn his convictions in the largest hepatitis C outbreak in Nevada history. A lawyer for Dipak Desai told justices there was so much attention, he didn’t get a fair trial. Desai was convicted of murder and 26 other charges including neglect and insurance fraud. Desai made staffers reuse tools and medicines that weren’t properly sterilized, or intended for re-use, while doing colonoscopies. He’s serving 18 years to life. He was also convicted in federal court for health care fraud and and ordered to pay 2.2 million in restitution.
