The Nevada Department of Motor Vehicles made a mistake with money collected through its web site, and sent local governments and school districts $19.1 million they were not entitled to receive. But the DMV says it will not ask that the money be repaid. Washoe County and other non-school governments got $2.2 million over three years and the Washoe County School District got $1.6 million in operating money and for debt. A slice of the Governmental Services Tax was supposed to go to the state’s general fund but instead was sent to local governments.
