“Biggest Little City”Arch Goes Dark for Dallas

Reno’s “Biggest Little City” Arch will go dark on Friday, July 8, to honor 5 Dallas police officers killed in a sniper ambush Thursday night.

Reno Police Chief Jason Soto and Mayor Hillary Schieve condemned the violence in statements.

Soto said:

“The Reno Police Department works diligently in our region to gain the community’s trust. We have a community-oriented policing strategy in place that supports long-term problem solving, community empowerment and engagement and forging partnerships with other local law enforcement. Today, our law enforcement stands united with our community. Your Police, Our Community.”

Schieve said:

“It is with an extremely heavy heart that I am writing this statement today. I am truly saddened to hear what happened in Dallas, and it’s important for everyone to remember that violence is not the answer. Police all over our country put their lives on the line everyday to keep us safe. Today we honor those who selflessly placed themselves in harm’s way to protect their fellow citizens in Dallas. I want to personally offer my condolences to those who lost loved ones last night. I ask everyone in The Biggest Little City to keep the families of those who lost their lives, as well as those who have been seriously injured and the entire Dallas law enforcement community, in their thoughts and prayers during this difficult time. The Reno Arch will go dark tonight as we grieve the victims of this senseless violence.”
