Smith Creek Ranch in Austin, Nevada just received the Environmental Stewardship Award during the Cattle Industry Summer Business Meeting. The ranch was one of six to get the award sponsored by Dow AgroSciences, USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, National Cattlemen’s Beef Association and the National Cattlemen’s Foundation. The distinction is presented to farmers and ranchers across America who are doing their part to protect our nation’s natural resources. The 230,000 acre ranch is vital habitat for Lahontan cutthroat trout and sage grouse, and Smith Creek Ranch has also restored two miles of creek bed that runs through the property, providing habitat for migrating waterfowl.
