U.S. Forest Service Mourns Loss of Firefighter

The U.S. Forest Service is among several agencies mourning a Reno firefighter who died in California.  Crew members on Engine 16 from the Plumas National Forest found 36-year-old Ian Howard dead the morning of August 21st. The cause of death has not been determined. The crew was positioned for firefighting at the Paskenta Work Center on the Mendocino National Forest and was staying overnight in Corning, California. Howard’s body will be flown via Forest Service aircraft to Reno-Stead Airport Friday, and escorted to a funeral home by his Plumas National Forest crewmates and other fire, law enforcement, and first responder vehicles at about 10am.
