NDOT is warning drivers, a section of State Route 342 south of Gold Hill will temporarily close Sept. 15 and 16 for final roadway surfacing and striping, as the last component of a Comstock Mining project which realigned the road last year. Through traffic will be detoured to State Route 341, commonly known as the truck route. The detour route runs parallel to State Route 342 and provides direct access between U.S. 50 and Virginia City. The road closure is the final element of the project to realign State Route 342 around the historic Silver Hills mine shaft which has a history of collapses dating back to the early 1900s.It was closed in early February 2015. Comstock Mining is funding the repairs.
