The Hot Pot and Izzenhood fires have prompted the Nevada Department of Wildlife to order an emergency mule deer doe hunt. Because the fires burned around 200 square miles of critical habitat for the deer, it’s going to be difficult for the number of deer out there to compete with each other, and survive. The hunt will encompass the Izzenhood Range area and include the Area 6 deer herd, and hopes to minimize the amount of deer that are expected to die off from malnutrition and starvation.
