The Regional Street Enforcement Team has been going after “Johns’ as part of a national effort to reduce sex trafficking. One man has been arrested and 11 others cited for allegedly trying to buy sex in the downtown Reno area. In a statement, the local SET team noted prostitution is illegal anywhere in Washoe County and is illegal outside of legal brothels in Nevada. The National Johns Suppression Initiative ran from Jan. 18 to Feb. 5 and included 30 law enforcement agencies from 15 states. There were 732 arrests, including 723 would-be sex buyers and 29 alleged sex traffickers.
