Lyon County officials spend much of Tuesday worried about the potential overflow of a retention basin, but by late Tuesday afternoon the threat had passed. Water is still flowing in the drainages but no property or structures are threatened. No evacuations were ordered and there are no reported injuries or fatalities. Lyon County requested the National Weather Service to activate the Emergency Alert System to notify residents of the potential of flash flooding due to retention basin over flowing. Unfortunately the only category the event would fit, was a “dam failure” that why the story went out as a potential “Dam Failure.” The NWS followed the appropriate protocols and Lyon County is grateful for their cooperation.
