Long Sentence for Fatal DUI Driver

A drunk driver who tested at double the legal limit for alcohol; and five times the legal limit for marijuana has gotten two consecutive 20 year sentences, in a crash tha killed two people. 35 year old Mario S. Cortez will serve a minimum of 16 years before he’s eligible for parole. The defendant pleaded guilty last year and was sentenced to two consecutive 20 year prison terms, the maximum sentences.   Last April  Cortez caused the fatal accident  on Pyramid Highway, by running a stoplight and rearending another vehicle at 90 miles per hour,  and then ran from the scene. The two victims, a couple in the other vehicle,  died as a result of their injuries, Cortez was found hiding in a nearby parking lot.
