A South Lake Tahoe Woman, 47 year old Karen Rae Chapon, has been sentenced for insurance fraud, mortgage fraud, and theft. Chapon is the owner of the business, Tahoe Weddings and Events at Zephyr Cove.  Chapon pleaded guilty to defrauding an insurance company by submitting travel insurance claims using two separate forged death certificate,s and fraudulent invoices. She also swindled a local mortgage broker and a state title insurance company by providing forged and fraudulent bankruptcy documentation to secure a loan of $180,000. As a result of these fraudulent activities. District Court Judge Thomas Gregory sentenced Chapon to 72 months with parole eligibility in 24 months.
