(KOH) – Don’t panic and call 9-1-1 if you see some horribly injured people near the airport this week. It’s all part of disaster preparation. The airport is running a full-scale disaster drill from 8:15am-11:30am this Thursday, simulating a major plane crash. Artists will apply realistic-looking injuries of various extent to around 100 volunteers. Emergency crews from almost every agency in Washoe County will respond to the northwest border of the airport, and some make-believe victims will be transported to local hospitals. The exercise allows responders to perfect their skills and strategies in response to a realistic situation. The FAA requires commercial airports to hold a full-scale disaster simulation every three years.
