Gold production is strong in the state. The Elko Daily Free Press reports gold production in the Nevada rose 2.4 percent in 2016 to nearly 5.47 million ounces. The two largest gold producers in the state are Barrick Gold and Newmont Mining. The Nevada Division of Minerals says silver production was down 6.4% to just under 9.5 million ounces.
