Senator Catherine Cortez Masto has joined with Senator Marco Rubio of Florida, to urge the Trump administration to protect seniors from eviction under the Reverse Mortgage program. The Senators say reverse mortgages can be an important source of financial security for seniors, but they also come with some concerns. For example when a homeowner dies, and is survived by a spouse that was not an original borrower on the reverse mortgage., that makes the reverse mortgage loan became immediately due, meaning that surviving spouse had to either pay the loan in full, or face eviction. Safeguards in place to prevent that would be removed under the proposed Housing and Urban Development budget.
