The War Over Education Savings Accounts is On

The war over ESA’s broke out in Carson City Thursday, as republicans drew a line over school funding.  Democrats can pass a budget that does not include the ESAs without any votes from Republicans. If Sandoval vetoes that budget, democrats would need a two-thirds majority in both houses to override his veto. Thursday, republicans rejected the Marijuana Tax for Schools, to put pressure on the democrats. The ESA program, would give parents about $6,000 in state taxes to cover costs of sending their child to to private or parochial school.

Governor Sandoval says he’s disappointed democrats passed a school budget without funds for the Education Savings Accounts. He says he understands also why republicans voted against the marijuana tax. He says the idea that the GOP vote was anti education is not correct. Apparently the republican idea is without ESA’s, they’re not going to vote for the pot tax for schools.
