Evacuations have been lifted as the Prater Fire moves away from homes east of Sparks and heads north toward the site of the Earthstone Fire from a few weeks ago.
According to Sierra Front, Sparks Fire, Reno Fire and the Bureau of Land Management are fighting the flames. Ambulances are no longer being diverted from Northern Nevada Medical Center, which is open and operational. A drone in the area actually hampered fire fighting efforts because air support had to back off to avoid the drone. Officials are reminding you it’s never okay to fly a drone over an active fire situation. The lightning sparked Prater fire has burned 3,000 acres. There is no estimate for containment at this time.
Crews are also fighting a brush fire that sparked Sunday afternoon in Lockwood, east of Sparks. According to Sierra Front, the Canyon Fire has reached 110 acres and is 20 percent contained. There is currently no threat to the community.
Evacuation orders have been lifted in the Chilcoot area of eastern Plumas County. The fire in the Tahoe National Forest just south of Chilcoot burned more than a thousand acres Sunday afternoon. Heavy rain in the area help crews get that fire under control.
