Gang Related Murder Trial Now Underway in Sparks

The trial for Luis Menendez-Cordero in a double murder that took place in Sparks seven years ago is underway. Menendez-Cordero is accused of shooting and killing 19-year-old Kevin Melendez and 21-year-old Moises Vasquez Sanchez at a party on El Rancho Drive in Sparks in 2010. Police say the suspect shot the pair because they were associates of a rival gang. Menendez-Cordero was a member of the notorious MS 13 gang. Investigators says the suspect o was able to flee thanks to fellow members of MS 13, who hid him in the nearby area and then helped him get to California and then El Salvador. He was eventually arrested there and extradited back to Nevada to face charges.
