(KOH) – The Washoe County School District Naming Committee has chosen Sky Ranch as the name for the new middle school in Spanish Springs. The Sky Ranch airfield was constructed sometime in the 30’s, and primarily used by local farmers. During WWII the base was a training ground for navy and Army pilots and and helped support Pyramid Lake seaplane operations. Bill Stead organized the first Reno Air races there in 1964, and it was held there again the following year. Riley Sutton with the Washoe County School District they’ve named a lot of schools after people, so they decided to go in a different direction.
