Suspect Arrested After Pointing a Gun at Reno Firefighters

The Reno Police Department backed up the Fire Department in an incident at the Lakeridge East apartments about 11:45 am Saturday. RFD responded to a report of a possible gas leak coming from inside an apartment. Firefighters approached the front of the apartment, but quickly retreated when 48-year-old Michael Whiteford opened the door and appeared to point a gun at them. Police responded and got the suspect on the phone, and eventually convinced him to come out. According to RPD, he was intoxicated and couldn’t explain why he pointed the firearm at the Firefighters. He was arrested on two counts of assault with a deadly weapon The gun was recovered, and NV Energy responded to the scene and repaired a small gas leak.
