The Sparks Police Department says there have been a surge in scams, involving callers who claim to be from the Internal Revenue Service and demand immediate payment. Sometimes the fake IRS callers will threaten to have the person arrested if payments are not immediately made over the telephone.  Sparks police warn people not to give them information, including credit card numbers, and to hang up. The IRS does not make telephone calls to demand payment.
