Gas Explosion on U.S. 50 in Stateline

A natural gas explosion underneath U.S. 50 in Stateline caused road closures Sunday morning, according to the Nevada Highway Patrol and Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, and there’s a potential for another explosion.

In a video release on Twitter, Captain Joe Duffy of DCSO said two explosions occurred at 5:07 a.m. and 5:14 a.m. near Hard Rock Casino. Evacuations also took place in casinos.

The explosion formed a crater in a manhole in the area; while NV Energy is investigating the cause, they believe it was due to a bad power switch underground.

Duffy said the gas company also detected a leak.

Authorities closed Lake Parkway and Stateline Avenue and advise the public to avoid the area.
