Washoe County School Trustees held a special meeting Tuesday, trying to resolve an ongoing budget deficit. They turned back a proposal to eliminate ten teachers who teach English to non English speakers. They will approve a wider “walk zone” around schools, which will mean fewer students on buses, eight to ten fewer drivers and save half a million dollars. They will also make cuts in administration, including eliminating an area superintendent and executive assistant, and reduce travel budgets by half. With these and other moves, the district hopes to cut the deficit to seven million dollars.
