Washoe County Seeks Volunteers to Write Ballot Arguments

(KOH) – Voters this fall will likely see a question on whether to increase property taxes for a half-billion-dollar flood control project.  A “yes” vote would raise about $400 million for the Truckee River Flood Management Authority for projects such as construction of levees and floodwalls, and widening the river near the Vista Narrows. The tax increase would be about $26 a year for a home worth $300,000.

Washoe County is looking for volunteers to help write the arguments for and against the increase, which will appear in the sample ballots.  Deadline to apply is this Wednesday. The Washoe County Commissioners will appoint committee members on May 8.  For more information, contact the Registrar of Voters at 328-3674, or visit the county’s website at washoecounty.us
