Reno Man Pleads Guilty to Creating More Than 8,000 Fraudulent Accounts

A Reno man created more than 8,000 fraudulent online accounts using stolen identities to commit $3.5 million in fraud, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office. 47 year old Kenneth Gilbert Gibson, pleaded guilty Thursday to one count each of wire fraud, mail fraud, filing a false tax return and aggravated identity theft. He could get more than 20 years in prison.  Gibson stole identities of victims from a database in Reno and used those stolen identities to create 8,000 unauthorized and fraudulent online accounts. He also pleaded guilty to not filing a tax return for 2013 for $1 million he got through the scheme.
