President Trump signed into law the “Right to Try Act,” legislation Nevada Senator Dean Heller helped introduce to increase patients’ access to breakthrough cures. It gives terminally ill patients access to experimental drugs that have not been approved by the Food and Drug Administration but have passed basic safety testing. Currently 40 states, including Nevada, have ‘right to try’ laws on the books. With Heller’s support, the U.S. Senate unanimously passed the legislation in August 2017. Heller says FDA approval of these drugs can often take months and years on end, and for these Americans – every day is important.
