Fire crews quickly stopped progress of a brush fire off the southeast corner of Pyramid Highway and Disc Drive in Sparks Wednesday, in the hills that are part of Wedekind Regional Park. Sparks Fire Division Chief Jim Reid says the wind shifted at just the right time to blow the fire back into itself and prevent more damage. The fire was reported about 1:30PM. It grew to about 30 acres. The fire started near a road leading to power lines and a power substation, and for a short time knocked out power to 6,000 NV Energy customers.
