Smoke & Haze Expected to Remain in Northern Nevada Through The Week

Word like “hazardous” and “very unhealthy” aren’t commonly used to describe air quality in Northern Nevada, but the week started with some of worst air quality in years, thanks to fires burning in California. Monday afternoon the air in Douglas County and Carson City was “Unhealthy”, and that was an upgrade from “Very Unhealthy” earlier in the day for both areas. And for a time the air quality in Douglas County was labeled “Hazardous.” Washoe County air quality was also poor, pollution levels were “unhealthy for sensitive groups.”  According to the Nevada Division of Public and Behavioral Health, people with heart or lung disease, older adults, and children should move activities indoors and avoid prolonged or heavy exertion. Everyone else should reduce prolonged or heavy exertion.
