The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office is asking for help identifying a person who abandoned a cat at the Douglas County Animal Shelter in Gardnerville. August 16th, Animal Control Officers at the shelter on Dump Road in Gardnerville found an animal carrier with a male gray cat near the front door. The cat’s entire body of fur was matted. The cat was taken to Animal Medical Services, sedated and shaved. He was also treated for sores from the matted hair pulling on the skin. Investigators say it was an extreme case of animal neglect that had been going on for years. They’re looking for an “older” male with a gray goatee, red shirt, jeans and a baseball cap caught on video abandoning the cat.
