Man Arrested, Targeted Older Women, Followed Them Home

The Sparks Police Department arrested a man over the weekend who allegedly admitted targeting elderly women for thefts. 20 year old Matthew Preston Hunter, was booked on charges that include robbery, burglary, fraudulent use of a credit card and possession of stolen property. Police stopped him Saturday in the area of Sullivan Lane and Oddie Boulevard, driving a vehicle that matched one used in l burglaries between Aug. 31 and September 15. Police found stolen items, and determined he had sold some other items at pawn shops less than 30 minutes after stealing them. The women he targeted were ages 71 to 91. He targeted them at grocery stores, often when they parked in handicapped spaces. Saturday he followed a woman home from a grocery store and waited until she unloaded her groceries before entering her home through an unlocked window. As she slept he stole several items, including taking off a necklace she wore and trying to steal a ring she was wearing.
