Digital School Days Introduced in The Nevada Legislature

A bill has been introduced by Assemblywoman Jill Tolles that would allow digital school days when snowy conditions force schools to close. The Washoe County School District called a number of digital days over winter that let students do their homework online, but that was stopped by the Nevada Department of Education, who said the implementation of digital days was against the law. AB314 would allow students to work from home on their computer when weather conditions are too dangerous to open schools, and would ensure that every student has access to technology so they can take part.  The bill also provides accountability for students, who can show they’re doing school work, rather than playing in the snow. Districts in Nevada will be able to opt out of digital days. Those opposed to to the bill say it’s unfair to low income students, because many don’t own computers, and it would be an invasion of their privacy.
