Sparks Police Officers responded to an apartment in the 1800 block of El Rancho last night on a call of a domestic disturbance, and found an armed suspect. Once on scene Officers learned that the suspect, later identified as Thomas Gurski Jr, was armed with and handgun that he pointed at a neighbor during the disturbance. Witnesses told officers that Gurski pulled the victim into an apartment. Officers attempted to contact Gurski, but he refused to comply with the officer’s commands. Due to the nature of the call, the information that Gurski was armed, and that the victim was being held against her will, the Sparks SWAT Team along with Hostage Negotiators were called to the scene. After nearly an hour and a half of attempted Negotiations, the SWAT Team made an emergency entry and safely removed the victim from the home. Shortly after Gurski was taken into custody. Surrounding apartments were evacuated during the incident. All of those residents have been allowed back into their homes.
