The Caples Fire, which started Sept. 30 as a controlled burn in the El Dorado National Forest, has now burned 2,885 acres west of the Kirkwood area. According to the weather service, the fire could sent smoke today into the Lake Tahoe Basin and over Reno. Fire officials say the fire is 35 percent contained.
